Stephen King - The Dark Tower 1-4

Stephen King has recently concluded his masterpiece Dark Tower series with The Dark Tower, bringing new readers to this odyssey.

I The Gunslinger - A bit confusing at times (doesn't seem like a Stephen King book), but in my opinion better than the revised edition. I think it is the perfect beginning for the series.

II The Drawing of the Three - Continuing Roland's 'journey'. This book has little to do with the actual 'quest for the Tower', and the title pretty much sums up the whole book (still an excellent read). This book has a lot of action (much more than book I).

III The Waste Lands - Where the adventure REALLY begins. Now that Roland has 'drawn' his three to form a 'ka-tet', he can truly start on his quest. A very descriptive book, The Waste Lands takes you to a variety of environments and situations, which is why this is one of my favorite books. The ending is a big cliffhanger.

IV Wizard and Glass - Roland and his ka-tet continue on their journey.

Stephen King - The Bachman Novels (4 novels in 1 book)

Richard Bachman first appeared on bookshelves in the late 1970's with the release of Rage and The Long Walk. King has said that he used the Bachman pseudonym so that he could write differently and also to see how an unknown writer would do. The Bachman books were not as successful as those penned under the King name, but he kept producing them. In the early 1980's, King used the Bachman name to write Roadwork and The Running Man. In 1984, King wrote Thinner using the Bachman name. Somehow, around the same time, Steve Brown found that Bachman was actually King. The rumor spread fast and "Thinner" began flying off the shelf. Bookstores throughout the country began selling out of all the Bachman books of course, and King finally admitted the truth.

Fascinating, how he pulled it off for over fifteen years!

The book consists of four great novels.

Rage:
In quiet Placerville, Maine, a slightly twisted boy named Charles Decker holds the 24 other students of his algebra class at gunpoint after shooting 2 teachers.

The Long Walk:
Is about a walk where the winner gets the ultimate prize - anything they want for life, and the losers get punished with death!

Roadwork:
The story of 40 year old Barton Dawes is fairly normal, up to the point when the city council decide to extend the 784 Freeway. In order to do this they have to demolish a few buildings - his house and workplace are both scheduled to be torn down.

The Running Man:
The future is a very dark place, where people work in dangerous jobs for low wages, but employment is still extremely hard to get. Ben Richards knows that the only way his wife and daughter can get out of the low class lifestyle is for him to try to win money on one of the many gameshows on television.
